The management of Promed NZ Ltd have identified factors which enhance learning on their courses. They include:

1. Small Group Training - Any more than twelve course participants the student / instructor relationship declines thus the student becomes distracted and loses attention. They then become bored and don’t learn. Eight to twelve students is a comfortable number.

2. Positive Feedback - Identify and highlight the good points of course participants skills and they will continue to learn. Focus on their negative aspects and they will shut off. Encourage course participants to ask any questions. If instructor does not know the answer they are to find out and inform the person of the answer.

3. Work Habitat - Most course participants come from active physical jobs. They do not learn sitting down listening to somebody. They need to be doing active things, training scenarios using training aids and doing things.

4. Past Experiences - Identify in class who has done what. Draw on the experience of the class to enhance the course. Use situations they have been involved in to discuss conditions and problems.

5. Instructor/Facilitator - Be honest with your experiences and knowledge. People can recognise when they are being delivered information that is wrong. DO NOT use any technical terminology unless in advanced courses. Apply KISS principle.

6 Repetition - Have course participants practice all practical skills at least three times alternatively. This allows them to practice then watch / observe and improve in skill and confidence on each attempt. This will build confidence in the student.
