Course Overview

One of the biggest issues we face when in the outdoors or in a remote area, is the potential for an incident requiring medical attention. Assistance could be unable to get to you or be hours away. This course is action-packed and will give you the confidence to look after a patient (or patients) for a longer period of time.

This unit standard is intended for people who wish, or are required, to manage emergency care for a period of two to twelve hours during an outdoor recreation activity. Anyone that spends time in the outdoors either for work or recreation, including Scout and Guide leaders, Park Rangers, Land SAR, DOC staff, Tramping groups, and Outdoor Instructors would benefit from this course.

People credited with this unit standard are able to: explain long-term management requirements for an emergency care situation in an outdoor recreation environment, and assess and manage a patient's condition long-term in an outdoor recreation environment.
